Membership Types
The Wellington Community Association has three types of membership.
- Individual members
- Associate members
- Honourary members
Individual Members are people who live inside the physical boundaries of the Wellington Community Association as defined by our by-laws and the boundary map provided to the City of Nanaimo.
Honourary members are former individual members who provided ten or more years of active service to the Wellington Community Association without any benefit to themselves or a group they are affiliated with.
Associate members are people who do not live in the physical boundaries of the Wellington Community Association, but still wish to participate. Associate members are usually affiliated with groups renting the hall and participate as interested parties in hall operations aspect of the community association. Associate members who are unaffiliated with a rental group and who are former residents of Wellington can apply to be individual members.
Meeting Schedule
Meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year at 7pm. The meetings are held either in the Hall Kitchen, or in the small meeting room.
Meeting Structure
To keep meetings productive, they are to be run using Roberts rules, and must follow the association's bylaws and the society act.
Qurourm is required for material resolutions to be passed. Quorum is the physical presence of three Individual or Honourary members. The president, secretary and treasurer, or an individual acting in their stead, do not count toward quorum.
Member Entitlements
An Individual or Honourary member in good standing is entitled:
-
- To attend, and vote after 30 days, on any issue at an Annual, Monthly or Special General meeting of the Association.
- To stand for election to the Board of Directors thirty (30) days from admission to membership.
- To benefits of the Association after a five (5) year membership, attending six (6) meetings in each of the five (5) years.
- At their request, to receive free of charge, one (1) copy of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association.
Historically, benefits of the association has been the option to use the hall for a free rental for personal use (i.e. Family member dinner, wedding, etc.). Individual members who attended meetings due to their affiliation with a paid rental/group who charges for attending events at the hall do not qualify for free rentals. (This caveat is needed because otherwise people would just join the hall so they could run their events for free.)
Membership Termination
A person shall cease to be a member of the Association:
-
- By presenting his resignation in writing to the Secretary
- On their death
- On being expelled
- On having been in arrears of membership fees for twelve (12) months.
